With a chink of light at the end of the coronavirus tunnel, it was good to see the government’s slight relaxation regarding social distancing allow golf courses to re-open, that coincided with our own return to work.
Strict social distancing measures are being advised in order that players can play with members from the same household or one player from another household.
Clubs will be at different stages of their preparation but the overwhelming majority will be following the advice England Golf, acting on supplied by a joint initiative with the R&A, unions and the greenskeeper and club managers associations.
Aside from procedural changes their will be noticeably more course signage relating to social distancing. Whilst this is hopefully more of a ‘temporary’ signage solution, it seems inevitable that some of the protocols may become longer term permanent fixtures.

New Sytems
A new World Handicap System is expected to launch late 2020. Designed to welcome more players, to make golf easier to understand, it has been developed by The R&A and The United States Golf Association (USGA).
It will also feature a new ‘Course Rating’ & ‘Slope Rating’ that looks to ensure at least one more golf signage panel is required per course which is good news for the sign maker 🙂
