Antimicrobial Signage
Antimicrobial signage solid

NovaDura offer specialised antimicrobial protection signage for the primaDURA range.

Intended for protection of surfaces in areas that require a high degree of hygiene such as: Hospitals, Food manufacturing, Wet Rooms, Public communal areas, Agricultural Food (agri-feed).

Whilst antimicrobial protection is not a substitute for good hygiene/cleaning practice, incorporated coatings prove effective against a range of bacterias.

primaDURA antimicrobial signage products contain an antimicrobial additive. The active component is BioCote® silver glass complex, a biocidal product which controls the growth of micro-organisms on the product surface.

BioCote® technology protects the surface of the product from microbes including mould, fungi and bacteria. Furthermore, the product surface is more hygienic and resistant to the growth of staining and odour causing microbes which may prematurely degrade the material.

BioCote® is proven effective against a wide range of clinically significant bacteria.

  • MRSA, MSSA
  • E. coli
  • legionella pneumophila,
  • salmonella, and
  • H1N1 virus amongst many others.

Once added to a product the BioCote® technology starts to work immediately. Tests have shown significant decreases in microbial contamination within just 15 minutes and reductions of up to 99.5% in 2 hours. Very significantly BioCote® works for the expected lifetime of the product.

Antibacterial and Antimicrobial

Most noteworthy, “Antibacterial” and “Antimicrobial” are commonly interchanged, when in fact they have very different meanings.

Above all the primary difference between antibacterial and antimicrobial substances is the types of micro-organism they act upon.

  • Antibacterial products prevent the development of bacteria
  • Antimicrobial agents prevent the spread of bacteria, fungi, and some viruses.

This is a much broader scope of protection than the protection found in antibacterial products.

Cleansing wipes are an example of a product available as both an antibacterial product and an antimicrobial product. Antibacterial hand wipes kill bacteria, while antimicrobial wipes kill bacteria plus other micro-organisms that can cause human illness.

Test Standards

Tested in accordance with ISO22196:2011 – the international standard for the measurement of antibacterial activity on non-porous surfaces.

A suspension droplet of either Escherichia coli or Staphylococcus aureus is placed directly onto the surface under test.

Placing a cover-slip on top of the droplet spreads the bacterial suspension in intimate contact with the test surface.

After 24 hours incubation at 35°C the bacterial suspension is released from between the cover-slip-test sample sandwich and the number of viable bacterial cells surviving determined.
