Working in collaboration with Signs of Scotland, the project at RSPB Loch Leven was commissioned to mark the site’s 50th anniversary of connecting children with nature, supporting volunteering, and creating habitats for wildlife.
The brief was to deliver a high-quality heritage and wayfinding signage scheme, including lecterns and post-mounted signs, that would celebrate the site’s story through engaging, accessible interpretation while complementing the natural landscape.
Located within a high-footfall outdoor environment, the signage needed to withstand regular public use, constant handling, and year-round exposure to the elements.
As a family- and child-focused venue, the interpretation had to be creative, clear, and easy to understand, encouraging exploration and learning without overwhelming younger visitors. At the same time, it was essential that the installations remained durable, legible, and visually appealing over time.
Balancing clarity, creativity, and long-term outdoor performance was key.
ecoDURA High Pressure Laminate was selected for its strong environmental credentials, structural strength, and proven long-term outdoor performance.
Its robust construction provides excellent resistance to weathering, UV exposure, impact, and repeated handling, making it ideally suited to a busy visitor destination. The material’s exceptional print clarity and colour stability ensure interpretation remains vibrant and legible, supporting engagement for visitors of all ages.
The ecoDURA panels were integrated alongside beautifully crafted wood carvings by Signs of Scotland, combining contemporary durability with natural materials that sit comfortably within the landscape.
The result is a robust, low-maintenance interpretive scheme that delivers creativity, clarity, and sustainability, built to perform in a demanding outdoor environment while enhancing the visitor experience.
